If you are not okay
Last updated: September 10, 2026
Cerne is not therapy, not psychological care and not an emergency service. If you are suffering, see a psychologist. If your life is at risk right now, call the crisis line of your country, below, or your local emergency number.
1. What the app does when a conversation shows risk
Cerne talks with you through a language model. When what you write indicates a risk to your life, three things happen, in this order, and none of them is generated by the model:
- Before anything is sent, the device itself recognises unambiguous risk terms and locks the conversation, without sending the text out.
- If it gets through, the server runs the same check and returns the conversation locked, without spending a call to the model.
- If the model senses risk mid-conversation, it stops answering and the app takes over.
In all three cases the conversation ends with a fixed message, written by people, which says this deserves a real person, shows the crisis line of your country and the emergency number, and leaves a button to call. What you had already written remains yours. The app records only that there was an alert, when, and on which account: never the text.
2. How the app picks the country
The line belongs to the country you are in, not to the app's language. The app uses, in this order: the country of your IP address on the last call to the server (the code only, kept on the device for up to a day), the region set on the device, and the store of your account. If there is no line for your country in the table below, the app does not show another country's number: it points to the local emergency number and to the directory findahelpline.com, which lists crisis lines worldwide.
3. The crisis lines, country by country

4. What the app does not do
Cerne does not diagnose, does not advise and does not replace a professional. It does not notify third parties, does not call anyone on your behalf, and does not keep what you wrote in a risk conversation in any record beyond your own device and your account's copy. If you think an answer from the app was wrong or hurt you, flag it with the little flag next to it: we read everything that arrives.
